So Spring has arrived!

I find that more people now get more excited about the arrival of Spring than New Year, so why is this?

I think New Year comes at the end of the festive period, we start to celebrate Christmas a lot earlier these days & by the time New Year comes then I have found people just want to get their decorations down & move on, unless you have a specific celebration to go to New Year can be a bit over-rated.

Spring on the other hand comes at the right time. People are fed up with the long, dark winters nights. The excitement of getting snow has long passed and we all just long for some sun on our faces.

So when the first signs of Spring appear then the excitement starts to build. You see lots of posts online about Spring is coming……

So when is Spring?  This is the factual bit….

Spring begins between the 19th & 23rd March, usually on the 21st March.

The 1st day of Spring is called Vernal Equinox which is latin for Spring Equal Days.

On the 1st day of spring the sunrise and sunset are about 12 hours apart everywhere on the Earth and the hours of daylight & night are almost equal.

The Vernal Equinox happens when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is not facing towards or away from the sun and the sun is directly above the equator. This also happens on the Autumnal Equinox in Autumn, which is around the 22nd September.

What does Spring mean to me?

What does spring mean to me - Daffodils Spring flowers

Spring is about longer hours of daylight, higher temperatures and the gardens start waking up.

So I got thinking about what Spring means to me……  When I think of spring I think of all these things….

  • Yellow Daffodils, colourful Tulips and lots & lots of spring flowers
  • Sunshine
  • Birds singing
  • Open windows
  • Sunglasses & Flip flops
  • Easter Egg Hunts
  • Easter bunnies
  • Green grass & blue skies
  • Thoughts of BBQ’s
  • Summer evenings sitting in the garden
  • Walks along the beach
  • No coats

So what would you add to the list?
